Week 3: Witch Movie Countdown - 31 Days of Halloween

These days are just flying by and we're almost halfway through the month already! Where's Hermione's timekeeper when you need it? I don't know about you, but I've been spending my nights curled up by the fireplace with a warm cup of apple cider, good friends, and some great entertainment.

And just remember, this list is not in order of best or worst, but instead a mash up some classic favorites with the occasional obscure film thrown in to create the perfect playlist for your October.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 12: The Coven (2015)

We're gonna start off with a new one this time. I'm not the biggest fan of horror, but this one definitely caught my eye. (Mostly because the cover is a blatant rip-off of The Craft's) Despite that, I chose to let the movie speak for itself, and I liked it so much it made my list.

Seven students from Highgate (Yes, the place with this beautiful cemetery!) take their coven to Queen's Wood where the horror begins.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 13: Witchfinder General (1968)

Gruesome torture, sadistic violence, and accusing innocent people of witchcraft. Sounds like a perfect film for the 13th day of the month. If you like a bit of controversy, head on over to the Wiki page to read more.

A corrupt Witchfinder General goes on a witch-hunt. Based (loosely) on Matthew Hopkins, a 17th century lawyer, and his exploits during the English Civil War.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 14: Teen Witch (1989)

Zelda Rubinstein. Yes, the voice we've all heard narrating our late-night trips through dark hallways to use the bathroom. No? Just me? Well, you've definitely heard her voice narrating The Scariest Places on Earth amongst many other creepy casts. Plus we get a classic white kid rap battle. Could we ask for anything more from a late 80's witch film?

Louise just wants what every teenage girl wants; to be popular, embarrass evil teachers, and win the heart of the hottest guy in school. But when she turns 16 all of that becomes possible with just an amulet and a few well-cast spells.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 15: The Covenant (2006)

Are you terrified of spiders? Oh good, there's about 5 minutes of this movie that you're going to want to skip over entirely. Unless of course you want to see your worst nightmares come to life on screen.

Five families produce extremely attractive offspring...with magical powers. When the 5th son shows up, all hell breaks loose.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 16: The Witches (1990)

Look at that face. That is the face of an angel. Or the Grand High Witch of a convention that wants to turn all children into mice. It's based on the book by Roald Dahl. Amazing.

Luke spies on the witches and has to join together with his grandmother and hotel manager (Rowan Atkinson) to fight back against the witches evil plan.

Weekend Binge : The Good Witch Series

The Good Witch (2008) -

The Good Witch's Wonder (2014)

Let's move away from the spooky witch stereotype this weekend and join Cassandra Nightingale in her haunted house! Pro tip: whenever moving into a small town, make sure to assure the community that you're the good kind of witch, otherwise they'll all plot against you. But seriously, get ready for some feel-good Hallmark emotions. You might need to let out your inner woman and bring along a tissue or two.

Cassandra finds love and friendship in her new small town. She continues being awesome throughout the entire series. And the subsequent television show.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And while you might not think it's sensible to sit in your house watching Hallmark movies all weekend long, remember the words of Miss Nightingale, "Oh George, never do the sensible thing!" How did you like the movies from week two? Was there anything new that you hadn't seen before? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear from you!
